Tired was an understatement for how Anantra felt. She’d been in the lab most of the day practicing for hours under supervision. She’d choked out in the field a few day before, she wasn’t sure what had happened. Something had seemed to distract her or interfere with her abilities but she wasn’t sure what. But what she did know is she’d let the others down, one of her siblings could have been hurt. And so she’d spent the day practicing and undergoing tests. They were testing her for weaknesses. For what could interfere with her power or what could cause her to lose focus. After hours of testing though she was too tired to do any more.
They said they hadn’t found anything but Anantra secretly wondered if they’d tell her I they did. She knew most of them took one look at her and wrote her off as a monster. And she had been a monster when she was younger, but not anymore. But that’s what she’d always be to the humans.
When she got back to own room she took a quick shower. After that she made her way out to the common room. She sat down on the couch next to her little sister. Katrina might actually be more of a young woman, but Anantra still saw her as a kid, a kid who needed someone to look after her.
“How where your lessons today?” she asked with a smile, without letting on to her own fatigue. She figured the other residents would likely be back soon but she was glad for a little time with her sister.

In human form Katarina changed her appearance almost as much as she did in demon form. Katarina preferred to be in human form, less people looked at her funny. Granted, everyone gave her strange looks from time to time, especially when she was allowed to leave the confinements of ERO on a mission. Her vibrant scarlet hair and violet eyes (which normal humans assumed were contacts) made her stand out amongst a crowd.
Today, like most days, Katarina had a punk-gothic vibe dressed in her black patterned corset and vintage red checkered mini skirt fringed in black lace, paired with her combat boots. She could not be missed in a crowd if she tried. Skipping down the corridor her boots reverberated off the stone floor as she made her way to the common room where she sunk into one of the large plush chairs, but not before choosing one of the many books from the shelves provided by the organization. Katarina chose Wuthering Heights; it was one of her favourites.
Opening the book she began to read, but no sooner had she finished the first chapter did her sister walk through the door, “Hey,” she looked up and smiled as Anantra sat beside her. Katarina closed her book and looked at her sister in rapture; sure she had done something really amazing with all her training that day. “Oh you know, nothing that interesting,” she said with a cheeky grin slowly forming over her features, eager to tell Anantra of her own day. Getting a little bit giddy she blurted out, “I walked through fire,” her eyes lit up ecstatically, “It was awesome!” she smiled and shrugged her shoulders, “Now I am the girl on fire.” Nudging her sister she asked, “So what did you do today? Weren’t you training for a long time?” she observed, then asked, “Did you do anything cool today?” referencing her sister’s ability to absorbed others energy. Katarina thought it was the best power of all, you could prevent someone from using their power by using your own and gain energy from it. Katarina wondered if her sister could live forever. Now that would be wicked!

In a dark cavern, a slender young man crouched as he threaded his way through a tunnel. Although not claustrophobic, he still hated the closeness of the walls and ceiling. It made it difficult to keep his mind on his task: to locate the underground stream he’d sensed was here.
Aron Stakaan had an affinity to water in all forms, but being only half-demon, he had to concentrate more than his half-sisters did as they practiced and honed their powers. - But, that was neither here nor there at the moment, and Aron bit back a curse as he nearly struck his head on an outcropping.
But then, he paused, and closed his eyes for a long few moments. “It’s there,” he stated, ducking further and then exiting into a slightly larger space. Laying his hand on the rock, “It’s behind here,” and Aron turned back to the men who’d been following him. “It’s not a large stream,” he went on, “and… maybe two feet in.”
~@~@~@~@~
Later, as he cleaned up and changed clothes, Aron was quietly proud of himself. His tests were becoming harder, and to have passed this one was a good sign. As he left his room, Aron ‘picked up’ the droplets remaining in his shower stall, formed them into a ball and ‘froze’ them… creating (in effect) a snowball, which floated out the door behind him. It stayed with him all the way to the common room, where he saw his half-sisters both curled up on one of the couches.
“Hey,” he greeted them with a nod. “I’m not interrupting, am I?” Aron asked, going to pick up a glass - into which the snowball fell and turned into ice water.

Anantra smirked a little at her sister’s joke but then smiled.
“That’s great. I’m really proud of you. You’re getting really strong now.” She told her proudly, “Just don’t let them push you to hard, don’t do anything you’re not ready for.”

Anantra shrugged, “I’ve gotta stay in practice, get stronger you know. I guess the labcoats were looking for something but its not like they’ll tell me what they found, so I guess its just practice for me. But now I want to just relax until diner.”
She looked up when Aaron entered.
“Hey.” She greeted, “No, we’re just talking and relaxing a little. Katrina walked through fire today.”

Katarina brushed off her sister’s headed warnings with a wave of her hand, “I won’t.” Then smirked like she was keeping a big secret, “Last week I jumped off a four story building, it was so much fun, and I didn’t feel a thing,” she said then mused aloud, “Maybe that’s what they mean by dead instantly,” the otherwise morbid thought sounding perfectly innocent from her lips. Then returned her attention to Anantra. “I got up and brushed myself off and was perfectly unharmed, well once I shifted my shoulder back into place, and some other stuff,” Katarina mumbled the last part of her sentence knowing Anantra disliked hearing about the various ways in which Katarina had gotten herself injured, even though she healed rapidly. Katarina had been out on a very simple mission, jumping off the building wasn’t exactly a necessary feet but she had done it anyways. Luckily the organization had been impressed enough by her initiative that they hadn’t punished her too much for doing something she wasn’t supposed to, and no one had seen her so there was really no harm in it.
Katarina glanced sideways to see her brother Aron. She smiled gleefully at him, “No,” she answered and then looked at his snowball and raised a questioning eyebrow, “Hey big bro, whatcha doin’?” she asked watching him as he placed the snowball into the glass and melted it. Katarina beamed triumphantly, “I am now the girl on fire,” she repeated. Katarina was the type to tell anyone who would listen about her experiments or lessons as they were called. The more she could do the more she loved it. Katarina often felt invisible with her abilities. |

((sorry so short and lame - still kinda trying to find an intro spot for the mom. ))
Smiling at his little sister, "Fire and water, huh?" Aron commented. "They've got me hunting underground streams," he added. "I guess it's a good thing I'm not claustrophobic."
Looking at Anantra, "They keeping you busy in the lab?" Aron inquired. - And, seeming a bit uncomfortable (after all, he *was8 only their half-brother), "Seen mother lately?" he asked.

Anantra shook her head at her sister's comments, she knew lecturing her to be careful would do next to no good.

Anantra's face turned into a hard line.
"Be careful how loud you say that." she cautioned. she nodded, then spoke quietly, moving over on the couch so Aron could sit down.
"I saw her a few days ago, she didn't really communicate much, just let me know she was there. She's trying to watch out for you two." she smiled, "I thin she might be trying to find a way to talk to daddy, its just so well guarded down there even in a different form it'd be hard."
She didn't tell the other two how much she missed their parents, she didn't want them to feel the same.
"I'll get to see father again tomorrow. He always asks about her but I can never talk freely with the guards there." she added then looked at Aron, giving him a reassuring smile to let him know no matter what their father said, she still considered him her brother.

Katarina listened intently to what her brother was saying, fascinated by what they had made him do. Katarina was always curious about other demon’s powers, especially those that were different from her own, like Gabriel with his wings (she found it ironic that his name was Gabriel and he had wings like an angel), or that girl, Sarah who could create and manipulate fire. Now that was a cool power!
Kat looked then to her sister with an expression of bewilderment. Why should it be a bad thing if Anantra had seen mother? She thought to herself. Anantra would have captured her if that were the case, right? She thought. That was protocol after all; it was what they were supposed to do should they ever see their mother. Katarina had only seen her mother once. In the woman’s presence she had frozen. Not because Drian had used some sort of power over her, but because she was her mother. Katarina had failed in capturing her mother that day but she would never slip up again if given the chance.
Katarina rarely ever saw her father, she had barely seen him in the years that she had been with ERO and frankly had asked not to see him any longer. She hadn’t told Anantra this, but she didn’t wish to see their father. It made things confusing for her. She disliked the whole processes. Kat liked keeping things simple. For such a restless, spontaneous girl, she liked certain things in her life to be orderly, and her conscience was one of those things.
“What?” Katarina said at Anantra’s remark about seeing their mother. Her eyebrows pulled together, “What do you mean watching out for us? We aren’t in any danger. Maybe from her,” she said defensively. She believed whole heartedly in ERO, and thought that their mother was the traitor in all this. Katarina scoffed, “Why would she want to see Dad?” She rolled her eyes, “He’s just as bad,” she muttered to herself, not caring if Anantra heard, she knew her older sister was closest to their parents. Katarina was started to feel distant and unsympathetic towards her parents. The only person she could even barely broach serious conversation with was Aron, sometimes. She always spoke with Anantra and was very close to her sister, but tried to shy away from mentioning anything dealing with their parents. It seemed a sore topic on both ends. Katarina loved her sister nonetheless. She adored hearing about how her powers were coming along.
-----
Violet Clarke entered the common room where she found quite a few ‘supers’ congregating. Violet, also known as ‘Glimmer’ preferred calling them ‘supers’ rather than demons, it sounded so much more… appealing. Glimmer was a half-demon which was looked down upon amongst the purebloods, but she couldn’t care less. She tried to pretend she didn’t care, but to be honest Glimmer cared more than most. She always tried 110% in every class and mission given to her, to prove herself. Saying that she was an overachiever was an understatement.
If anything Glimmer was not one to be underestimated. Her bubbly, chatty, cheery nature may have been very deceiving and she bested most in a fight simply because of this. With her amiable disposition and demure appearance Glimmer had the ability to get on well with everyone, and she did. Most everyone liked her, save for the few full-demons who despised her merely on preconception.
Glimmer approached the others and took a seat beside Aron, “So, what are we doing today then?” she asked, interrupting them. “Oh, sorry, was I interrupting something?” she asked sweetly.
((ooc: Sorry this took forever, and that it is really long, but I thought both of you deserved something a bit more than two sentences after I took that long to reply. ))

((hope this is ok - let me know if I need to change/edit anything!))

Biting his lip, Aron blanched slightly at Anantra’s warning, and furtively, he glanced around the room. No one else within seemed to have noticed, to his great relief.
The ones who ran the lab didn’t like it that their mother was free; they’d be glad to recapture her if they could.
It had been some time since *he* had seen her, and Aron missed Drian. Most of his life had been spent with his Human father, so the young man had treasured when he’d had a chance to see the Demoness Drian. - And, unlike Katarina, Aron had no intention of trying to contain her on the times he did.
A mention of his half-sister’s father made Aron wince, though he appreciated Anantra’s smile. Not that he didn’t blame Crean for not liking him. After all, when one’s wife dallies with another, one was likely to be resentful of the resulting offspring, wasn’t one? - And, from the few times Aron had been in the Demon’s presence, he knew Crean was not anyone he wanted to cross.
quote: “What?” Katarina said at Anantra’s remark about seeing their mother. Her eyebrows pulled together, “What do you mean watching out for us? We aren’t in any danger. Katarina scoffed, “Why would she want to see Dad?” She rolled her eyes, “He’s just as bad,” she muttered to herself,
Though he left alone the muttered comment, Aron rose to the defense of their mother. “Why shouldn’t she care about us?” he demanded to know. “We’re in no danger from her!”
What else he might have said would have to wait for later, though, for then Violet Clarke entered the common room. - At which, and the fact that she came to sit next to him, turned Aron tongue-tied. ‘Glimmer’ really was appropriate as a nickname, he thought, deciding to study the hands he now folded in his lap.
quote: “So, what are we doing today then?” she asked, interrupting them. “Oh, sorry, was I interrupting something?” she asked sweetly.
Inarticulately, Aron shook his head. Glimmer was… almost ‘overwhelming’ with her tangle of golden hair and bubbly personality, and it wasn’t, perhaps, unusual that Aron would find himself attracted to her. - If only he had the *nerve* to say something about it! - If, that was (he thought dryly), he could get in a word edgewise.
“We’re just talking about the today’s tests,” he managed. “Did you pass yours?” he inquired.
********************************
The Demoness Drian flickered on the outskirts of the lab wherein her children and husband were ensconced. Though she’d seen Anantra a few days before, it had been some time since she’d spoken to either Katarina or Aron. - And, even longer since she’d set eyes on her husband.
Determined that it was *time* she did so, Drian fingered the jeweled locket about her neck as she gazed speculatively at the facility‘s main door. It was the seat of her power, and she was never without it. Luckily, the fools she’d escaped from had not realized it - merely thinking it a trinket she was fond of. - But,, that wasn’t the problem. There was enough in-and-out activity that Drian did not doubt she could enter at will.
The issue was, what form would be ‘best’ for breaking into the facility. At length, she decided on the form of a butterfly, and in the flash of an instant, the comely-looking Demoness had switched her shape.
Flitting in a seemingly ‘random’ fashion, Drian chose a likely-looking person - a guard (she laughed inwardly) entering for his night’s duty, and attached herself to the back of his shirt. No one would notice her, and if they did, they would (of course) merely chuckle that such a creature had slipped inside.
As soon as they were past the security checkpoints (and there were several), Drian detached herself and made for an open doorway. - It was, as she remembered, the way in to the facility’s Common area. A brief perusal of the room then showed the Demoness that all three of her children were there! Delighted by that fact, and ignoring that a fourth person was with them, Drian took a flutteringly ‘aimless’ path toward them… eventually - as if only doing so for a bit of ‘rest’ - coming to land on her son’s arm.
At first startled by the yellow and blue butterfly (those being the colors Drian had chosen for herself), as Aron watched it slowly fanning the gossamer-like wings, he saw the insect’s head turn so the eye was directly staring into his own. A small ‘flash’ of light then brought his attention to the butterfly’s neck, and abruptly, Aron understood. It was their mother! Glancing at Anantra, Aron blinked twice and briefly lowered his eyes to the butterfly, hoping she’d take his meaning.
Pleased at herself, Drian settled herself to wait - later when the children were alone, she could speak to them. - And, she had a plan for speaking with Crean, as well. Able to assume any shape she chose, Drian chuckled at the thought of changing herself into Katarina’s form to accompany Anantra when she went to visit her father…

Anantra was glad Aron stood up for their mother. It was always a difficult line to walk for Anantra around her little sister. She didn’t want Katrina to hate their parents but she didn’t want to make her sister feel sad, like she’d missed out on something. Plus Anantra was afraid if she were to be overheard defending either of her parents she might get locked back up.
She almost laughed though when Glimmer sat down next to Aron. It was pretty obvious to her how much of a crush her brother had on the other half demoness. She was also glad the conversation was steered away from the touchy topic of earlier. Anantra knew someday she would have to have an earnest, honest conversation with Katrina about their life before ERO but she still thought the girl was too young, she had time to do that latter. Thinking about the past was hard for her. She hated the things she’d done but still she longed for the sense of belonging she had with her family. Here she would always be regarded with some air of suspicion and fear. The humans here and the other demons might treat her well but they’d never love her like her parents did.
She never even noticed the butterfly flit in and land. It wasn’t until Aron signaled her that she looked, she had thought he was staring at his hands only because Violet was making him nervous. She smiled at the butterfly but quickly, just enough to let her mother know she was glad to see her but not enough to draw any extra attention to the ‘butterfly’ then one would an ordinary one. She got up yawning a few minutes latter.
“I’m going to rest a little before dinner.” She looked sternly at Katrina, “You make sure you get some rest today as well after all your hard work.”
As she started toward her room she looked back, “Oh, Aron, I’ve still got that book I borrowed from you, if you want it back you can stop by.”
As she spoke she looked to see if the butterfly would follow. She assumed her mother wanted to talk to Aron and she wanted to give him an excuse. She hoped mother would have a moment to spare for her as well.
